๐Ÿง™ Designing your hero (at the table)

How to think about your character before and during a session with your Game Master and party. The mechanical details have their own pages โ€” see the building-blocks links below.

Adventurer preparing for the road

The Game Master sets the stage

Before you invest points or pick skills, the GM will tell what kind of adventure awaits: gritty low-magic, high-seas swashbuckling, courtly intrigue, or something stranger.

Don't bring the barbarian to a royal ball โ€” well, not without a makeover first.

Pick your place in the company

Decide what you want to play in the group. You are not locked into predefined classes โ€” think in terms of focus and role rather than a label.

  • What's your primary focus? (combat, stealth, lore, social, magic, supportโ€ฆ)
  • What's your role in the party? (scout, face, healer, damage, wild cardโ€ฆ)
  • Which other characters do you have ties to? Rivals, mentors, debts, promises.

Ties to other PCs give the GM threads to pull when the story heats up.

Name and backstory

Choose a fitting name and a short background: where you came from, how you act, what you want next. A few vivid details beat a page of bland facts. Note connections to other player characters.

Know where you came from, who you are, and where you want to go.

Spend starting points: the building blocks

When you are ready to nail down mechanics, use your starting character points with the GM. Each block of the sheet has its own page below โ€” short reads, mobile-friendly.

Breadth beats the one-trick pony

Character points buy options. Excellence is deliberately expensive so one hero cannot solve every problem alone. Prefer a broad, capable sheet over a single legendary score.

Rule of thumb: baseline first (no glaring weak spots), then what makes the concept stand out, and only the last few points chasing very high numbers. Maths: Dice rolls.
